Transformation support and building the capacity for change

The Assignment

Southend on Sea Borough Council wanted to review their transformation projects and approach to ensure alignment with their new strategic objectives.

The Role

Working closely with the Director of Transformation and the Senior Leadership Team we undertook a diagnostic review of all transformational and change activity and implemented a new transformation approach. Our work included:

  • Conducting a series of stakeholder meetings and interviews with the Senior Leadership Team, Senior managers, Change Managers, Programme sponsors, and Project Managers, to determine the council’s approach and understanding to transformation;
  • Designing and delivering a series of workshops with key outcomes;
  • Co-designing a new approach within the council to transformation;
  • Assessing the council’s ICT, digital and Smart Cities estate, infrastructure and future strategy to ‘digitally enable’ the overall transformation programme; and
  • Carrying out a series of ‘check and challenge’ workshops to test new ways of working.

Key Outcomes

This assignment provided the Council with:

  • An action plan to inform the strategic direction and approach;
  • A new set of transformation tools and methodology; and
  • A series of insights and recommendations for pilots and prototypes, in particular the adoption of a “think big, start small, scale quickly” ethos to encourage more innovative and creative thinking.
