At 31ten Consulting, Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) is not a separate initiative, it is embedded into the way we operate as a business. As a certified B Corp, we are committed to balancing commercial performance with positive environmental and community impact, and we recognise the important role businesses such as our own has to play in responding to the wider climate challenge.
Reducing our carbon footprint
Over the last few years, we have taken significant steps to better understand and reduce our carbon footprint per person, becoming more carbon efficient as the business grows. That process has been about creating a culture of continual challenge and improvement across the business. We regularly review how we work, travel and operate to identify practical changes that can reduce our environmental impact while continuing to strive to deliver high-quality client work.
Some of the measures we have introduced include promoting active travel and offering a company electric vehicle scheme. One of the most significant changes we have made has been limiting flights to business-critical travel only, encouraging colleagues to consider lower-carbon alternatives wherever practical. These decisions are not always the easiest or most convenient, but they reflect the responsibility we believe businesses should take in reducing emissions.
Supporting organisations that make a difference
Alongside managing our emissions, we also want to support organisations making a visible difference within local communities. That is why we continue to support Street Trees for Living, a community-led charity focused on planting and protecting trees in urban environments.
Their work aligns closely with our own values. Trees play an important role in carbon sequestration, biodiversity and improving mental wellbeing, while their education programmes help engage younger generations who are the future climate leaders and decision-makers. Through the Big Give campaign, our donations have also been match-funded, helping to double the impact of our support.
Commenting on our most recent contribution, Oli Back, Schools & Operations Manager at Street Trees for Living said:
“Last year we used 31ten’s donation to support our school and community programme. As part of this programme 90 trees were planted across Lewisham”.
Laura Bridges, Director and ESG lead at 31ten, comments,
“Being a responsible business means continually reviewing how we work, making practical changes to reduce emissions, and supporting initiatives that deliver lasting environmental and social value.
Publishing our annual Carbon Reduction Plan is an important part of how we hold ourselves accountable, track progress and continue challenging ourselves to reduce our environmental impact year on year.”
Future outlook
At 31ten Consulting, we will continue to challenge ourselves to improve year-on-year and support initiatives that create meaningful environmental and community impact.
